Nell and Woody are not at all friendly and normally have nothing to say to one another, but one day during a class field trip to a historical museum, the two fall under the spell of an Incan icon and when they awake the next morning, Woody's mind is in Nell's body, and vice versa. Nell (Samaire Armstrong) is a pretty but hopelessly geeky teenage girl who loves Shakespeare and wants little more than to study literature at Yale when she graduates from high school in a few months Woody (Kevin Zegers), who lives next door, is the quarterback on the school's football team, and seems like a sure bet to land a lucrative football scholarship despite the fact he isn't especially bright. Two kids with nothing in common are brought together in a very unexpected way in this comedy. On the verge of being locked away for a second time, Ned is saved when his true relationship to John is finally revealed. Out of gratitude, Ned tries to save Alice from being victimized by a lecherous loan shark, only to be accused of theft. Upon his release, Ned is given a job in John's office, never realizing that he is working for his own sibling (nor is John aware of this). Ruth is eventually rescued by philanthropist Alice Randolph (Jean Shirley)-who, not surprisingly, is the wife of Ned's "missing" brother John. Arrested while robbing a bank, Ned is carted off to prison for a short term, while Ruth is consigned to a charity ward. Unfortunately, such an undertaking requires a great deal of money, and when Ned is unable to secure honest employment, he turns to crime. Years pass: Now grown into manhood, Ned (Carlyle Blackwell) and his invalid wife Ruth (Lillian Collins) arrive in America in search of John (George Anderson). British orphan boys Ned and John are separated in childhood when John is adopted by a wealthy American couple.
